With the assistance of Entegrity, the FedEx 2955 Republican building in Memphis, Tennessee was recently awarded LEED 2009 Gold level of certification through the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building program.

Renovated with sustainability in mind in 2018, 2955 Republican is a 71,000 square foot facility that houses the FedEx Hub Administration staff. The project team was able to utilize the existing structure, while also improving on the original design to create a space that is anything but your typical office building. The shallow floor plate and interior courtyard allow for ample natural light to infiltrate into most spaces within the building. In addition, low VOC materials were used throughout the building to support good Indoor Air Quality. The existing asphalt parking lot was retained and mitigated with parking shade structures outfitted with 552 photovoltaic panels which are expected to produce approximately 263,000 kWh/year. These arrays will account for 19.8% of the energy used by the building. Both open floorplans and private office spaces reside in the building, as well as traditional support spaces such as restrooms, conference rooms, break rooms, and storage spaces.

“Working with an ownership team that cares about the environment as much as FedEx has been inspiring,” stated Meredith Hendricks, Entegrity’s Director of Sustainability Operations, “Each member of the project team was dedicated to ensuring the successful achievement of LEED Gold Certification. The result is a highly efficient office space that provides minimal impact to the environment.”

2955 Republican was designed by Self Tucker Architects. Construction management was provided by The Christman Company, and the building was constructed by Montgomery Martin. Entegrity provided LEED Consulting, Commissioning, and Energy Modeling services on the project.
