The City of Memphis has officially opened the new Frayser Library, the first city-owned building in Memphis to achieve LEED Gold Certification. Entegrity served as the project’s sustainability, commissioning, building testing, and solar partner—helping the city deliver one of the region’s most energy-efficient and environmentally responsible civic buildings.
A Major Sustainability Milestone for Memphis
The new 20,200-square-foot Frayser Library replaces a much smaller facility and was designed from the ground up to support the City’s climate goals. Through early integrated design workshops, Entegrity worked with the owner and architects to establish sustainability targets, complete detailed energy and daylight modeling, and manage the full LEED certification process.
Key performance achievements include:
- 1,316,880 lbs CO₂-equivalent reduction
- 48.1% energy cost savings from baseline modeling
- 1,598,398 gallons of water saved annually (76% reduction)
- 83% construction waste diversion (185 tons)
These results make Frayser Library a model for future public projects aligned with the City of Memphis Climate Action Plan.
Onsite Solar Cuts Energy Use by 17%
Entegrity designed and installed the library’s 50 kW rooftop solar system, which generates approximately 74,800 kWh of clean electricity each year, offsetting 17% of the building’s total energy consumption. The solar system’s high-performance ratio and minimal shading ensure long-term reliability and measurable carbon reduction.
A Community Hub Built for the Future
Inside, the library features flexible learning spaces, technology labs, children and teen areas, meeting rooms, and dedicated program rooms for literacy, job readiness, and community events. High-performance architectural elements—such as expansive south-facing glazing, optimized shading devices, and efficient mechanical systems—enhance daylight, comfort, and energy savings.
