Methodist Le Bonheur Projects Earn LEED Certification

West Cancer Center

The newly certified West Cancer Center was a $65 million, 123,251 square-foot building project that included the major renovation of an existing facility coupled with an addition. The building now houses comprehensive cancer care, education and research programs.

A 31 percent reduction of potable water use over a baseline modeled comparison is achieved through the installation of efficient faucet, toilet, and urinal fixtures. The building’s energy efficiency is improved by 21 percent over a baseline modeled comparison to a similar building constructed to the ASHRAE 90.1-2007 energy efficiency standard. More than 87 percent of the on-site generated construction waste was diverted from the landfill through recycling, and more than 97 percent of the original building’s structural elements were reused.

Faculty Office Building

The Methodist Le Bonheur Faculty Office Building achieved silver level certification. Located in the Memphis Medical District, the new $28.5 million, 51,787 square-foot building houses offices, conference rooms, and classrooms for approximately 230 employees.

As modeled, the Faculty Office Building can expect to achieve a 24 percent energy savings, compared to a typical building of the same size. Water savings are expected to be 41 percent, compared to the baseline measurements. During construction, nearly 99 percent of the on-site generated construction waste was diverted from the landfill. More than 11 percent of the building materials used in the construction were regionally sourced and just over 21 percent of the materials used contained recycled materials.

BRG3S was the architect for both projects. Flintco was the general contractor for the West Cancer Center and Turner Construction was the general contractor for the Faculty Office Building. Entegrity served as the LEED consultant for both projects and provided Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning, Indoor Air Quality Testing (West Cancer Center only), and Energy Modeling services. “We were pleased to assist in creating highly efficient, sustainable buildings to serve Methodist Le Bonheur. It makes perfect sense to create facilities that support the health and well-being of the faculty, staff and patients,” said Chris Ladner, Entegrity founder.
