LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS – July 17, 2018: With the assistance of Entegrity, the National Wallcovering/Colour & Design facility in North Little Rock, Arkansas was recently awarded LEED Gold certification. It is the first building in the state of Arkansas to use the Arc performance platform to achieve certification through the LEED v4 Operations and Maintenance for Existing Buildings rating system. The facility achieved 64 points at the time of certification but because of the interactive nature of Arc, their score will continue to evolve and has already increased to 65. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes, communities and cities that are designed, constructed and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.
The facility is a 76,250 square foot facility built in 2003 that houses its own headquarters and warehouse, as well as the office and warehouse space of their tenant, Emser Tile. The facility was previously certified LEED Gold in 2011 under the LEED v2009 EBOM rating system.
“We are very excited to be the first project in the state of Arkansas to use Arc to achieve the LEED Gold certification renewal. Our companies are committed to sustainability and the new platform makes it easier to see our performance results.” says Shelly Bixler, Chief Operating Officer.
Arc is a recently released performance platform for buildings to collect data, manage and benchmark progress, measure impact and improve sustainability. Arc measures how the building performs in five key areas: Energy, Water, Waste, Transportation and Human Experience and receives a simple performance score such that it can compare progress to other buildings locally and globally.
The National Wallcovering/Colour & Design building is performing exceptionally well in the Human Experience category, which measures occupant satisfaction and indoor air quality. Its score in this category exceeds the global and local average scores for similar buildings on Arc.
The certification process involved tracking energy and water utility data, performing a waste audit and indoor air quality tests, and conducting surveys to collect feedback on occupant comfort and transportation. National Wallcovering/Colour & Design will continue benchmarking this data to inform and improve performance in the coming years.
The building is owned by Bix Enterprises. Entegrity provided LEED Consulting services for this project and the LEED Gold certification in 2011.
